Many industry sectors face difficulties in terms of skill shortages and in particular the ability to attract suitable apprenticeship applicants who are both keen to participate and whose interest in the industry will be sustained over the long term. There is no doubt that many young people entering an apprenticeship are vulnerable to making an inappropriate choice or entering a trade without an underpinning knowledge or understanding of job expectations, for a variety of reasons. These issues can be addressed through careful support and employment processes.
